An introduction to the trio behind Mitma School:

Hello! Welcome to Mitma School! I founded Mitma School (named after my late great-grandmother whom my family and I lovingly called ‘Mitma’) in the fall of 2016 with the help of two of my cousins, Suleman and Jehan. The aim behind it was to help empower, teach and add some fun into the lives of a group of underprivileged children living in the outskirts of Islamabad. The majority of the students had been deprived of an adequate education which is why we spent Friday – Sunday teaching them using innovative and engaging methods. Each student was taught according to their academic prowess, and during the course of the two years, there was improvement in the knowledge and confidence of the students.

Noor is currently a student at University College London, pursuing a bachelors degree in Education Studies. She hopes to eventually work as a policymaker in Pakistan and work towards improving the country’s education system particularly for disadvantaged students.

Suleman Haroon

Head of IT, PE Instructor, Computer Instructor, Head Teacher

Suleman – a friendly, hardworking and ambitious student – taught the students subjects ranging from math to science. He was responsible for developing the computer studies curriculum, and introduced the students to technology for the first time. Suleman was also the PE instructor and arranged various matches and games for the children.

(Suleman is currently pursuing a bachelors degree in computer science at Queen’s University, Belfast, and will be starting a work placement with a cyber security company in Belfast this fall.)

Jehan Adnan

Curriculum Development Consultant, Head Teacher, English Language Lead

Jehan, a law students at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), worked on creating and developing the school’s literacy and English language curriculum. An avid reader, she helped arrange and run monthly book clubs at the school.
